This one hour webinar that took place on Thursday 10 September is aimed at everyone involved in providing video based services in higher education. We invited 3 experienced practitioners to tell up about their plans and the challenges they face for the coming year, they are:

  • Carlos Turró Ribalta, Head of Media Services department, Universitat Politécnica de Valencia, Spain
  • Thorleif Hallén, Senior Adviser/Manager Educational Technologies, UNINETT, Norway
  • Daniel Tan, Group Chief Learning Officer at the Taylor's Education Group, Malaysia

The main topics our panel is planning to discuss are:

  • Beyond campus wide implementation – How to get campus wide use?
  • Flipped videos or lecture capture – What path do we follow?
  • User Generated content – How do we manage it?
  • From note-taking to mind maps – how is the learning process changing?
  • Learning on the move – How is it done and what are the results?
  • Video segmentation – How to reuse the material in other courses?

Carlos Turró Ribalta, Head of Media Services department, Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain

Carlos Turró is M.D. and PhD from UPV. He is working since 1992 for that University and since 2000 until now he is Head of Media Services department. From that place he has developed the Polimedia service as a system to create Video Learning Objects. Currently, the Polimedia system is used from more than ten universities and has produced more than 8000 learning objects. The Polimedia system was granted with the Spanish national award FICOD 2009 for the promotion of digital services.

 

 

Daniel Tan, Group Chief Learning Officer at the Taylor's Education Group, Malaysia

Dr Tan has over 26 years of experience in teaching, eLearning architecture, design and policy making. He also has a strong understanding and substantial hands-on experience at the integration and synergy of education technology and content for effective outcomes. Prior to joining Taylor’s, Dr. Tan has held senior academic leadership roles in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
He obtained his BSc from University of Aston, Birmingham, England. He subsequently achieved a PhD from the University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology and a post-graduate Diploma in Teaching in Higher Education from the National Institute of Education, Singapore. His technical interests cover educational technology and infrastructure design, learning science, Internet and ICT security, cloud technologies, human factors design and usability.

 

Thorleif Hallén, Senior Adviser/Manager Educational Technologies, UNINETT, Norway

Thorleif Hallén is manager for education technologies at UNINETT, the Norwegian NREN. He’s also responsible for a national project on lecture capture, under eCampus, 5-year programme funded by the ministry of education, that aims to aid higher education institutions in adopting the use of technology in education and research. Starting out with a Real Video server, a stopwatch and SMIL-scripts he has worked with lecture capture for nearly 20 years now.
Prior to joining UNINETT, he worked at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology where he also worked on educational technologies, with a special focus on lecture capture.
